Overview

Your journey begins in Alton, where you will travel through the beautiful Hampshire countryside to Alresford aboard a heritage train. On the 12.40 service. On arrival in Alresford, you will join the yellow shuttle bus outside the station building, which will take you to your vineyard tour.

Discover Pinglestone Estate, the home of Louis Pommery England.

Enjoy a 90 minute guided tour through 40 hectares of enchanting vineyards, the first planted by a Champagne house in England, overlooking the stunning South Downs National Park near New Alresford.

Your experience concludes with a guided tasting of three wines crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the estate.

You will then board the shuttle bus back to Alresford Station, ahead of your return journey to Alton Station, departing at 3.45pm. Trains may be pulled by either steam or heritage diesel on the day of travel.

The beauty of Alton is that you can get there via train, as the current National Rail and Heritage Rail lines are situated together in Alton.

When we get back to Alton, if there is any interest, we can find ourselves an early dinner. We can decide where nearer to the date.

The Watercress Line is located just off the A31, and about seven miles from Winchester.

The Watercress Line took people on holiday, carried people to war, transported evacuees and moved all the essential goods of the area, especially of course watercress. A visit to the railway is a visit back in time. Most of the steam engines on the railway actually worked on the line in its heyday. The railway was built as a mainline and was used to connect London with Southampton and the docks, so you will be experiencing the railway as most travellers would have done in the first 70 or so years of the railway’s existence.
