Overview

Join Linda for the Lord Mayor of London Procession, St. Paul's Cathedral & Bank of England visits & walk.

This event has two start times to suit the individual preferences of participants.

If you wish to start this event with free entry into St Paul's Cathedral, please meet me on the front steps of St Paul's Cathedral by 0820. The doors to St Paul's Cathedral open at 0830 and the entry queue quickly grows after that. I will be in the queue before 0830 and plan to enter as soon a the doors open for visitors. We will go through airport style security checks before entry. I may actually go in for the 0800 service which you can also opt to do.

This Cathedral free visit only occurs once a year on The Lord Mayor's Procession Day and a visit to the crypt is included.

If you opt to arrive at bit later and so arrive after I've gone in, just join the queue and gain entry in turn.

If you choose not to join the St Paul's Cathedral visit element of the day, please meet me on the front steps of the Cathedral by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure for our walk.

We'll walk via back streets to see the floats and procession lining up, ready to participate in the procession that moves off at 1100. I plan for us to stand at the corner of the Bank of England building to view the Procession move off.

At about 1145, we can go into the Bank of England which uniquely opens on a Saturday on the Lord Mayor's Procession Day.

We will enjoy free time in the Bank of England Museum to explore the exhibits independently and will then meet at the front door at 12:30 to walk to our lunch stop pub.

I have booked tables at a Fullers pub for lunch (at your own expense) at 12:45. The pub was build in 1893 as Prescott's Bank and it's foundations sit partly on the north sleeper wall of a 2000 year-old Roman basilica.

We will have a break of about an hour and a quarter for lunch before our afternoon walk out to and alongside the River Thames, round the back of the Tower of London and across to the south side of the river.

You might like to join some of us who like to have a cup of tea before making our way home from London Bridge or other nearby rail and tube stations.

Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.

Please dress for the weather on the day (and you might like to bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).

Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.

Physical exercise and social interaction is said to regulate our nervous system and sharpen our focus. Movement stimulates the release of brain-devised neurotrophic factor (BDNF) 'brain fertiliser' apparently, so please join us for a day of collective social health and welfare! (Plus a pub lunch, tea, and perhaps a piece of cake which I believe is also good for us!).
