Reading Rep Theatre - Private Lives
Overview
Love, lust, laughs and a dash of scandal
On the glittering shores of the 1930s French Riviera, two newlywed couples are enjoying their honeymoons. But when Elyot and Amanda – divorced for five years – discover they’re staying in adjacent rooms with their new spouses, sparks fly… again.
One romantic serenade and several cocktails later, old passions reignite and the former lovers abandon their baffled partners, eloping to Paris in a whirlwind of glamour, chaos, and razor-sharp repartee.

Reading Rep began when Artistic Director Paul Stacey took a £500 overdraft and invested it into a vision he had always believed in: to revitalise Reading’s cultural landscape by making and creating the highest quality theatre, with, by and for Reading.
Packed with razor-sharp wit, sizzling chemistry and Coward’s signature elegance, Private Lives follows divorced couple Amanda and Elyot who unexpectedly find themselves honeymooning with their new partners in the same hotel. Old passions quickly reignite – with hilarious and chaotic consequences.
A fantastic cast including Amy Di Bartolomeo (The Devil Wears Prada, Olivier Award nominee) as the fiercely independent Amanda, Orla O’Sullivan returning to Reading Rep as the superbly organised Sybil, and Rose-anna Nicholson, a member of Reading Rep Theatre’s Youth Ensemble, making her professional stage debut as Louise.
