The Capital Ring is an urban walk in a smaller and more central loop around London than the London Loop, staying within 10 miles of Big Ben. Opened in 2005, it crosses the Thames at Richmond in the West and Woolwich in the East, and takes in many of the city's open spaces including Crystal Palace Park, Syon Park, Highgate Woods, Finsbury Park and Hackney Marshes.
Divided into 15 easy-to-walk sections, it covers 78 miles (126km) of open space, nature reserves, Sites of Specific Scientific Interest and more.
Capital Ring Walk (section 14) Hackney Wick to Albert DLR Station 5 miles which could end up being 6.5miles (see below)
Most of section 14 is on The Greenway, a path created above the Northern Outfall Sewage Embankment (NOSE, ha ha). However, as of February 2026 there are a number of path closures that could add up to 1.5 miles onto the route.
We will meet at Hackney Wick Station (Mildmay Line) to be away for 11. Lunch will be in Plaistow at Ali’s Deli Cafe that serves a variety of dishes as well as the traditional cafe fare. After lunch we will continue to the end of the walk at Royal Albert Station (DLR).
