Live Music at Matt & Phred's Jazz Club

Matt & Phred’s is an iconic, intimate live music venue and jazz club located in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Known for its nightly live performances, it hosts a mix of jazz, blues, soul, funk, and world music. With a "backstreet jazz club" atmosphere that is intimate and lively. It transitions from a chilled hangout on weeknights to a high-energy party spot with a dance floor at weekends.

Tonight will be our first official visit in excess of 18 years though we did pop along a couple of times recently tagged on to other events, for their free shorts sessions and we were really impressed with the quality of the performers.

This evening we see the Ed Kainyek Quartet: Ed is a prolific saxophonist based in Manchester, with a long and varied career in jazz and education, who has performed at countless venues and festivals around the world. The quartet’s repertoire spans traditional jazz standards, contemporary jazz, and relaxed ambient sets. Whether leading his own band, jamming with fellow musicians, or teaching the next generation, Ed Kainyek stands as a dedicated and skilled figure in Manchester’s jazz and live music community. Today, Ed is joined by a mighty line up of piano, double bass, and drums - expect two fantastic sets guaranteed to leave you in awe of this mighty line up.

• This gig runs from 7pm until 8.45pm, please note that there is another gig that follows this at 10pm so the tables will be required back however you are free to stand in the bar area for the later performance if you wish.
