Walking with Martin : Hammersmith to Boston Manor 6 mille walk.

Join Martin for this 6 mile jaunt from Hammersmith to Boston Manor and passes several places of historical interest along the way.

This walk follows a mainly waterside route from Hammersmith to Boston Manor. Initially following the Thames before picking up the Brentford branch of the Grand Union Canal. Early on we pass the Chiswick Eyot (river Island) as we make way to the Fuller’s brewery which can trace its roots back to the early nineteenth century. Soon afterwards we enter Chiswick Old Cemetery and here watch out for the impressive Portland stone cross which was commissioned for the war graves commission immediately after WW1. We continue through the grounds of Chiswick House and on through Strand on the green, where we encounter another Eyot (Oliver’s Island) before reaching our lunch stop in Brentford.

After refreshments we continue through Brentford before joining the Grand Union Canal for the final stretch of the walk to Boston Manor House. The house and gardens have been subject to a £6m restoration, and impressive it certainly is. At the end point you can visit the house, enjoy the gardens or take refreshments at one of the on-site cafes.
