Walking with Linda: 5 or 8 mile Wapping to Hoxton walk, V&A Storehouse & Museum of the Home Visits
Overview
Join Linda on this 5 or 8 mile Wapping to Hoxton walk, V&A Storehouse & Museum of the Home Visits.
Please meet in the café beside the entrance to Wapping tube station by 09:50 ready for a prompt 10:00 departure. If you arrive early, you might like to view the information boards on the Wapping tube platforms and the ends of the first tunnels built under the River Thames by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
We'll walk alongside the River Thames to Limehouse Basin and then beside the Regents Canal before turning off to follow the Hertford Canal. This will lead us to the River Lea and the Hackney Bridge Kitchens where we will stop for lunch at about 12:00 (at your own expense).
The Hackney Bridge Kitchens have a variety of food outlets selling meat and vegitarian options for lunch including steak and chips, pizzas, chicken and chips, tacos, Filipino dishes, sushi and burgers. There is also a bar to buy drinks.
Or, if you prefer, you can bring a picnic to have sitting beside the River Lea.
After lunch we'll walk the short distance to the V&A Storehouse for a self-guided visit. There are free of charge lockers to leave your bags in and we will independently explore the exhibits.
If a 5 mile walk, lunch and the V&A Storehouse visit are enough for you, you can go home from the nearby Hackney Wick tube station as the group walk past it.
Or, if you would like to join us for lunch and come on the V&A Storehouse visit and 3 mile afternoon walk with us, you can; please message the walk leader, Linda if you choose this option so the group know you will not be at the walk start.
After lunch, we will walk via back streets, Victoria Park and a different section of the Regents Canal to the Museum of the Home for a self-guided visit. Again, there are free of charge lockers to leave your bags in and we will independently explore the exhibits.
You might like to join those of us who like to treat ourselves to a pot of tea and cake/ dessert in a café before we catch our trains home from Hoxton tube station or of course, you can opt to go straight home.
Please bring drinking water, money to buy lunch and any other drinks and snacks you may want.
Please dress for the weather on the day (and you might like to bring a golfing umbrella if it is expected to rain!).
Physical exercise and social interaction is said to regulate our nervous system and sharpen our focus. Movement stimulates the release of brain-devised neurotrophic factor (BDNF) 'brain fertiliser' apparently, so please join us for a day of collective social health and welfare! (Plus a pub lunch, tea, and cake which I believe is also good for us!).
Please check your transport times, and for any engineering works, at least the day before the walk and allow some contingency time for delays. The walk needs to depart on time for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have arrived on time. Thank you.
