Shanty Singers of Colliers Wood This November

The Colliers Wood Shanty Singers are returning to The Golden Hinde again in November. Get tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Expect a lively evening of shanty songs performed across three sets with breaks in between. Guests can explore the 16th century ship, buy a drink at The Hinde Bar and borrow a chorus sheet to join in the singing.

A cast of professional performers, Colliers Wood Shanty Singers have performed monthly at the Tea House Theatre in Vauxhall and the William Morris pub in Colliers Wood for the past two years.

Singing the choruses of old shanties aboard a timber square rigged ship, with a glass of ale in your hand; it's as authentic a shanty experience as you can get! With a repertoire of 72 shanty songs, and requests welcomed it will be an evening of entertainment not to be missed.

What is Sea Shanty?

A sea shanty is a genre of traditional folk song that was once commonly sung as a work song to accompany rhythmical labour aboard large merchant sailing vessels. The term shanty most accurately refers to a specific style of work song belonging to this historical repertoire. However, in recent, popular usage, the scope of its definition is sometimes expanded to admit a wider range of repertoire and characteristics, or to refer to a "maritime work song" in general.
