Join us for a proper day out!

  • 10.50am meet in the Old Boat House Pub Car Park ready to walk at 11am
  • 11.00am we will take a leisurely 60 - 70 minute walk along the Bridgewater canal
  • 12.15pm we have a table booked for at the Old Boat House Pub a traditional family friendly pub with canalside views. You can choose smaller pub classics or sandwiches & wraps, from their reasonably priced Lunch Menu (at own cost). It is only a 5 minute walk from the pub along Higher Green Lane to the Lancashire Mining Museum at Astley Green Colliery Museum
  • 1.30pm Lancashire Mining Museum at Astley Green (free entry) is run by volunteers, however as a registered charity they do welcome donations paid by card or cash. There is free visitor parking and toilets. We will meet inside the refreshment tent at 1.30pm then walk around the site at your own pace. Step back in time to a place where the industrial heritage of this great county is brought to life through fascinating exhibits, informative tours, and immersive experiences. The museum houses Lancashire's only surviving engine house (a listed building) and headgear (98 foot high lattice steel). Visit inside the small miners cottage, but beware of the very steep stairs.
  • On arrival book your afternoon tea for 2.30pm (when we will meet up again as we are likely to get separated, it is around £4 for a cuppa plus a scone with Jam & Cream.

Meeting Point
  • We will meet at Old Boat House Pub car park at 10.50am, departing for our canal walk at 11am
  • 12.15pm for those joining the lunch option payable directly (please book the relevant slot type if you wish to join the lunch)
  • 1.30pm meet inside the refreshment tent of the Lancashire Mining Museum at Astley Green to take a look around
  • 2.30pm meet back inside the refreshment tent if you have booked directly on the day to partake of the Afternoon Tea (payable directly)
Getting There

Directions from the A580 East Lancs Road:

From Manchester direction turn left into Higher Green Lane. Past Astley Point on the right. Follow the road until you go. Past the mining museum on the left. Then look out for The Old Boat House car park entrance just before the canal bridge. The pub car park is free for customers.
