Overview
Please note this event is definitely going ahead. The event is outdoors and is run in a small group so are within the current rules. Please be assured that we will adhere to social distancing rules so will be safe.
Join Kevin for another leisurely stroll for an unusual tour of Key Hill Cemetery and the Birmingham Catacombs. Note: This is a new, second tour.
Starting at the Jewellery Quarter station and Banksy street art we make our way and search Key Hill Cemetery and catacombs for the graves of:
- Alfred Bird ( Bird's Custard )
- John Wellington Star ( Inventor of the light bulb )
- Joseph Chamberlin ( Lord mayor of Birmingham and Liberal MP )
- William and Thomas Avery ( Avery Scales )
- Robert Lucas Chance ( Chances Glass )
- Returning via the hidden passage.
Key Hill cemetery opened in 1836 as a nondenominational cemetery (in practice nonconformist) and is the last resting place for many of the great and good of Birmingham
The ground is often uneven, so good mobility and stout footwear are advised.
The tour is approximately 90 minutes long.
We will also book somewhere for lunch after the tour.
Please Note: Kevin’s other Jewellery Quarter walk “Buttons and Badges of Birmingham Tour” is in the afternoon so it’s possible to do both walks on the same day; this one at 11am and the other at 2pm. Here is a link to the other walk for details. If you are interested please book in the usual way.
