Hawkstone Follies Walk

This fairy tale park is an historic woodland fantasy with cliffs, crags, caves, deep woods and a series of extraordinary monuments built over 200 years ago. After years of neglect the magical landscape was lovingly restored and reopened in 1993. It's one mans extravagant fantasy had left us the legacy of England’s most enchanting private estate.

The full route is around 5 miles on well marked path and will probably take us three to four hours as there is so much to stop and see. Richard will do his best to explain the follies and help you to get inside the mind of its creator.

The Hawkstone Historic Park & Follies are made up of around 100 acres of woodland. Highlights of the park include spectacular views not least from the top of the monument, which you have to climb 152 steps to reach and where you can view 13 counties on a clear day. There is an exciting ascent to the caves trough a dark tunnel that emerges into a wet-walled, sun-dappled natural rock cleft before negotiating your way through a 200ft long tunnel that leads into a fantastic underground grotto. Two favourite follies include the Swiss Bridge, which spans an 80ft chasm and the Gothic Arch at the top of Grotto Hill.

Afterwards we can visit the Orangery Café.
