Cannock Chase Easy to Moderate Ramble and Carvery
Overview
We return to the southern part and highest point of Cannock Chase with Rob Smith for a 6 mile easy to moderate ramble. We walk into the Chase using good paths with some woodland and some open areas as well as some small pools. There are some gentle gradients but nothing too strenuous and, as usual, we will take our time.
We start on Gentleshaw common passing Beaudesert scout camp. After a short road section, we reach "Castle Ring", the site of an ancient Hill Fort. This is the highest point of the Chase and has great views this time towards Rugeley and Stafford. We then skirt the edge of the Scout camp before dropping to Horsepasture Pools. We head up to upper Longdon for a hallway stop at the Chetwynd arms
The Windmill pub does an excellent Sunday carvery (with alternatives). It also has a very pretty beer garden with views of Lichfield and the surrounding Area.
Location & Itinerary
After the ramble we have the option to eat at Ye Olde Windmill Inn which does great food
