Monday Walking with Alan - Capital Ring Walk (section 4) Crystal Palace to Streatham
Overview
Time to add the Capital Ring Walk to your bucket list Alan will be walking the Capital Ring in 15 stages today is the third stage.
The Capital Ring is an urban walk in a smaller and more central loop around London than the London Loop, staying within 10 miles of Big Ben. Opened in 2005, it crosses the Thames at Richmond in the West and Woolwich in the East, and takes in many of the city's open spaces including Crystal Palace Park, Syon Park, Highgate Woods, Finsbury Park and Hackney Marshes.
Divided into 15 easy-to-walk sections, it covers 78 miles (126km) of open space, nature reserves, Sites of Specific Scientific Interest and more.
Each walk will be on a Monday and there will be a chance to catch up on any you miss at a later date - if you missed section 1 and 2 or want to do it again keep an eye out for it later this year.
The fourth leg is a short leg at 4.2 miles. The route is mostly firm surfaces but note that there are more hills than usual..
We will meet at Crystal Palace Station (toilets on the platform and a coffee shop at entrance) to be away for 11. The highlights of this walk are Norwood Grove and Streatham Common, close to the end of the walk, where we will have lunch at approximately 1.30pm. There is a nice cafe at Streatham Common (The Rookery). Alternatively you may wish to bring your own packed lunch. After lunch and a look around the lovely gardens we will proceed to the finish of the walk in Streatham. Streatham and Streatham Common stations are both close to the finish.
