Sunday Walk: Plumley
Overview
Today’s circular walk explores the lovely countryside around the village of Plumley to the south of Knutsford. The landscape is dominated by fields, hedgerows and a scattering of woodland also taking in a couple of small lakes.
We pass by Holford Hall a magnificent moated timber house built in 1620 for Mary Cholmondeley, the last heiress and survivor of the Holford family. The hall suffered from neglect and fell in to disrepair in the nineteenth century.
However, it was owned by ICI for much of the last century and it is now restored and in private ownership.
We will take a slight detour to take a look at the fabulous moat before continuing on our way.
