Join your Spice Host Indra Sikdar on a visit to the fascinating, interesting and truly magnificent Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, a beautiful Hindu Temple located in Neasden, north London, also known as ‘Neasden Temple’.
The Mandir is a masterpiece of Indian stonework and craftsmanship, replete with its towering white pinnacles, smooth domes and intricate marble pillars, all based on ancient Vedic principles of art and architecture.
Indra will meet you at the Temple in the morning. To begin with you will watch the Abhishek water ceremony and then spend some time viewing the exhibition ‘Understanding Hinduism’ which presents the origin, beliefs and contribution of Hindu seers and scholars in the field of mathematics, astronomy, medicine, education and religion. You will then go upstairs to the main Arti ceremony which is offerings to the gods; it is a beautiful ceremony with amazing marvel carved and bought over from Italy. There will then be some time to browse the temple shop before heading over to the Shayona restaurant which is situated within the complex. Shayona is a contemporary and authentic Indian vegetarian restaurant.
After lunch there is a great supermarket nearby where you can buy Indian spices and tea and an Indian sweet shop on site which makes the best Indian sweets the the UK!
It’s a great day to immerse yourself in a complete cultural experience.
