Overview

Today's walk from Red Rock Car Park is part canal and part lakeside, with a soime pasture land in between. There is some climbing and very few stiles. The ground is fairly high, giving good distant views in a peaceful landscape that many people would not expect to find so close to an industrial area.

Around Worthington Lakes and along the canal we may be lucky enough to see waterfowl so you may wish to bring your binoculars.

Getting There

We meet at Woods Road Car Park: Leave the M61 at Junction 6 for De Havilland Way and at the roundabout take the A6027 towards Chorley then at the next roundabout take the first left on to the A6 Chorley Road. After a quarter of a mile at the traffic lights turn right on to Dicconson Lane and continue for 2-3 miles past the Gerard Arms and then ahead at a small roundabout at a T junction and towards the main central roundabout in Aspull. At this roundabout turn left onto Scotts Lane (B5238) past the Bindi Indian. Continue for 1.1 miles and at the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Haigh Road (B5239) and continue for 1.1 miles. At the T junction turn left onto Meadow Pit Lane (B5239) continuing for 0.8 Miles then bear right onto School Lane (still the B5239) continuing for 0.7 miles. Go over the canal bridge and the car park is the 2nd entrance on the right approximately 0.1 miles after the bridge.

Host & Everything Else

Please bring your walking boots and sandwiches as we will be having a picnic on the way round. Please refer to the Walk Grading information within the website FAQs HERE which also gives you a list of recommended items to bring with you.

DOGS: Lauren welcomes well behaved dogs on her walks. They need to be kept on a lead if we are walking amongst livestock, whilst we are eating and at all times if there is someone on the walk who is nervous of dogs.
